R1 is not used yet; it is saved for stage objects. Specials use two directions, then the button: tap Back, then Forward, then press the button (or Down, then Up). Back and Forward are relative to the way your fighter faces.
Stage exits: in the courtyard, knock your opponent down against the church door (right end) to smash them through it into the church, or against the cliff edge (left end) to send them over; you follow, and the fight goes on in the church or the cave below. The fall or the crash costs them extra health. Once a match. Blocking stops it. On Lam's planet, knock your opponent down in front of the egg-shaped building at the right end and its doorway pulls them into the chamber below; you follow.
Game speed (on the menu): Fast, the default, runs fights 20% faster than Normal; Turbo runs them 40% faster. The round clock counts real seconds at every speed.
